DAY 4 - CAMPING IN WEST MICHIGAN
When leaving Michigan, there are more than a few ways to go.
Most everyone drives to the bottom of the Mitten, through the Windy City of Chicago, and over Madison.
Yet, everyone I spoke to, raved about how beautiful Western Michigan was. Looking for a nice night of camping, Gus and I headed out to the point, and found a beautiful hike up to a lighthouse.
It was a nice break from the well worn path of Interstate travel, and had a rural feeling that reminded me more of home.
If you'd like to check it out, we camped at Ludington State Park.
Notice that even in Western Michigan, Wolverine pride reigns supreme!
We settled in for a nice night of camping.
The one drawback to being "off the beaten path," was that after setting up camp, it became apparent that the one hour trip to and from the closest grocery store, wouldn't really be worth the trek, so Gus and I compromised on a dinner of beans and beef jerky, over a fire.
We settled into our tent just in time for a pretty epic thunderstorm.....
...and woke up early to hop on the Ferry over Lake Michigan to Wisconsin.
Next Stop: CHEESE COUNTRY! Gus is understandably excited.
